Today I run into again a problem when I wanted to enable .NET 3.5 and 2.0 on a W2012 R2 box. I went through the usual Sever Administrator settings to add this feature, but it failed each time. I tried to apply the hotfix from Microsoft, but it simply didn’t installed. I also attempted to set an alternate source path on the network, but no avail. The OS was a vanilla evaluation deployment on VMware, nothing was deployed on it, even patches.
Finally the solution was that simple: I had to set the alternate location to the server’s local DVD…
